Welcome to Team Oakley's Team Page

Team Oakley

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As many of you know, this cause is very dear to my heart. I lost my best friend, Jill Costello, to lung cancer at the age of 22 in 2010. Shortly after her death, we overwhelmed Golden Gate Park with the attendance of 5,000 people at this event honoring Jill and the many others who have lost their lives to this disease. With the formation of Jill's Legacy, the youth-advisory board to the Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, I have stayed deeply involved in the Adolescent Young Adult (AYA) cancer movement and fight against lung cancer. I am constantly inspired by the people I meet in this community. It is truly one of the more empowering communities of which I've ever been a part. Yet, there is still dire need for support and fundraising to increase the 16.8% 5-year survival rate of lung cancer so a lung cancer diagnosis no longer has to serve as a death sentence. With your help, we can "beat lung cancer big time!"

I am so happy I can return to this event this year to celebrate the survivors, caregivers, and people who have been at the forefront in research and discovery for lung cancer. Please donate and attend, if possible. I appreciate all the support I can get! Together we can make a difference!

P.S.
For Sports Illustrated's 60th anniversary, Chris Ballard's story, The Courage of Jill Costello, was honored as one of the best 60 stories to ever run in the magazine. If you have the time, I encourage you to read it (with a tissue nearby): si.com/more-sports/2014/10/08/the-courage-of-jill-costello-chris-ballard-si-60
